FAQs
The following are some frequently asked questions and answers to them. If you have a question about something that is not listed here please email us.
Is OL&T a 3PL or a 4PL?
Much confusion exists in the logistics industry as to the difference between a 3PL and a 4PL. A 3PL contracts with companies to provide logistics services in various categories such as transportation or warehousing for part, or all of their clients’ supply chain management functions. 4PL's combine process and technology – and sometimes one or more 3PL’s - to reengineer a logistics program. However, consulting firms can also be considered 4PLs.
OL&T chooses the term Lead Logistics Provider (LLP) so as to minimize any confusion. As an LLP, OL&T offers a single point of contact for logistics solutions, empowering the logistics professional with technology, processes and information for better decision making.
What is the Odyssey Global Logistics PlatformSM integration process?
Client implementations are an OL&T core skill set. We deploy a very structured implementation program with management controls and a joint steering transportation team. Site visits are required with documentation of existing work progress and a well-defined, proposed process. We avoid extensive network changes that can cause customer or service disruptions. OL&T deploys a phased approach that ensures we have the core values of safety and service completely converted as we drive supply chain costs to the lowest possible levels.
OL&T's approach includes an understanding of current work processes, while developing the proposed process that includes technical integration points, a complete gap analysis, communications and change management, training and implementation.
How will OL&T handle the transition from our existing systems?
OL&T’s guiding principle for all transitions is that the process should be transparent to our client’s customers. The key to a successful transition plan is communication so that all parties understand what is happening and what to expect. We deploy a very structured implementation program with management controls and a joint steering team.
OL&T develops detailed transportation plans that are agreed to by all parties. OL&T will support the technical interfaces via several methods: system monitoring by our Support Group, periodic interface checks by Client Services and performance reporting.
Will OL&T use my current set of preferred carriers? What is required to become approved for the OL&T Carrier Network?
OL&T works closely with clients and with their current carriers to continue providing service without interruption. We take service excellence very seriously and will ensure that carriers continue to meet our exacting standards over time. Interested carriers should send an email to carrier@odysseylogistics.com.
