Industry Insights and Guidance

OL&T is a company run by proven leaders in logistics, process industries, and transportation management. Our consultants provide action-oriented strategies and recommendations to find value across the entire global supply chain.

Logistics Strategy

Planning and analytical services are at the core of OL&T’s consultancy, which helps clients explore questions from sourcing options and make vs. buy decisions, to inventory positioning and customer order management strategies. OL&T multimodal process manufacturing logistics management consultants work with clients to develop an operating solution informed by their business strategy and fiscal goals. This often includes linking cross-company opportunities for greater efficiency and savings.

A Thousand Points of Data

OL&T collects and time-stamps thousands of data points for each client. Data is only valuable when analyzed, and OL&T excels at mining data for potential process improvements. As part of an evaluation of one client’s logistics strategy, OL&T noted that extended delays in its railcar movements going through Macon, GA, sometimes extended shipments by as much as several weeks. OL&T recommended a new lane and monitored the alternate route to confirm that it rectified the situation.

Network Analysis and Redesign

Through a combination of improvements to the global supply chain and network design, OL&T works with prospective and current clients to streamline intermodal shipping operations, leverage aggregated buying power, and redesign lanes for greater efficiency. We focus on warehouse placement, warehouse rationalization, transit time analysis, mode shifts and shipment optimization.

Network Changes Bring Significant Savings

OL&T worked with an international corporation to evaluate its intermodal shipping network design, including reviewing its Origin-Destination pairs, freight data, and cost per mode. After OL&T completed a projected redesign of the network with optimized freight costs, it was clear that the new configuration offered a significant opportunity for savings. The company chose to completely redesign its network and was able to pass along a higher level of customer service to clients at a lower cost.

Workflow Analysis

Our process manufacturing shipping experts streamline, automate, and improve the efficiency of our clients’ workflow to reduce transaction costs and manage performance. Through an analysis of the latest lane costs and capacity available in the market, we recommend modifications for more timeliness, accuracy, and reliability.

Efficiency Study Evaluates Multi-Modal Shipment Activity

OL&T worked with a major corporation’s Transportation Operations department to evaluate its ERP system used to perform operational activities. The system coordinates finished goods shipments by rail, bulk truck, TL, LTL, expedited services.

After conducting a review of business practices and procedures, OL&T determined which would be considered optimal or best practices. The analysis identified gaps that broke with best practices, made recommendations on how current process manufacturing shipping processes could be improved, and detailed opportunities and quality benefits from using a different TM system.

Benchmark Assessment

Through a combination of improvements to the global supply chain and network design, OL&T works with prospective and current clients to streamline operations, leverage aggregated buying power, and redesign lanes for greater efficiency. We focus on warehouse placement, warehouse rationalization, transit time analysis, mode shifts and shipment optimization.

Taking the Measure

OL&T recently completed a benchmark analysis for a large corporation that requested an assessment of its various operations tools and systems. OL&T conducted interviews with all key players in the organization and provided an assessment of how the company compared to similar organizations, along with recommendations for standardization and implementation of best practices. Our objective analysis won buy-in at all levels of our client’s organization.
