Some Carriers Commit to Postponing Port Congestion Surcharges

According to a press release from the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) on December 4th, fifteen ocean carriers had committed to postponing port congestion surcharges until 2015.  FMC Chairman Mario Cordero indicated that the postponement is welcomed, and stated, “During this time, Commission staff will further address with the carriers our concerns for the lawfulness, fairness, and adequacy of notice of implementation.”

ILWU-PMA Talks Continue 

Separately, the Journal of Commerce reported that talks between the ILWU-PMA continued over the weekend.  According to Logistics Management, the ILWU caucus will convene on December 15th in San Francisco, and it is possible that “a tentative agreement could be worked out by the 100 caucus members, and then presented to the union for approval.”
