Bob Shellman, CEO and president of OL&T, has been named to the 2012 Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut’s “Dr. George R. Dunbar Free Enterprise Hall of Fame.” Shellman and three other Fairfield County business people honorees received their awards at the Hall of Fame dinner, which was held on Oct. 10th in Bridgeport, CT.
“The JA Hall of Fame Awards are presented biennially to outstanding business professionals from the Greater Bridgeport, Greater Danbury, and Lower Naugatuck Valley areas who have made notable and enduring contributions to private enterprise and who are exceptionally dedicated and committed to their communities.”
“Founded in 1946, Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut (JAWCT), is an affiliate of the largest, fastest-growing nonprofit economic education organization in the world. JAWCT focuses on in-school and after-school programs promoting work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. Programs are taught by volunteer members of the local business community who have a passion for ensuring that students, the future of our country, are equipped with the financial skills necessary to create their own personal and business success. Last year more than 22,000 students and 1,300 business and parent volunteers participated in 20 school districts throughout western Connecticut.”
The award exemplifies OL&T’s commitment to serving the community through our company-wide volunteer program, Project Outreach. Throughout the year, we have made significant contributions to organizations such as UNICEF, Danbury Children’s First, Yes Grace Rocks, Inc., Wounded Warriors Project, MADD, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This fall, 500 employees at six of our locations collected over 13,500 food items to give to local pantries in need. In addition to Bob’s award, OL&T was recently named the 2012 JA Company of the Year. We have nine employees who actively volunteer at JA programs, and our CEO, Cosmo Alberico, teaches at JA events.
These are just some of the accomplishments OL&T Project Outreach has achieved and hopes to build upon each year. All of us at OL&T are proud to have leaders like Bob and Cosmo who show us the importance of giving back to our community.
