August 20, 2020 CVSA’s International Roadcheck: September 9-11, 2020 CVSA’s annual three-day International Roadcheck is scheduled for September 9-11, 2020 The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) previously postponed International Roadcheck will take place September 9-11, 2020. This Roadcheck is the largest enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world. During this time, CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives. This year’s focus will be on driver requirements. CVSA officials said inspectors will primarily conduct the North American Standard Level I Inspection, a 37 step-procedure that includes two main inspections categories: an examination of driver operating requirements and vehicle mechanical fitness. CVSA as mentioned, that a third category, hazardous materials/dangerous goods, may also be part of a Level I inspection. Depending on weather conditions, resources, and other factors, inspectors may opt to conduct the Level II Walk- around Driver/Vehicle Inspection, Level III Driver/ Credential/ Administrative Inspection or level V Vehicle – Only Inspection. After a vehicle concludes it’s inspection with no critical violations, a CVSA decal will be applied to the vehicle, indicating the vehicle has successfully passed. If an inspector identifies a critical inspection violation, the vehicle will be put out of service until the violation(s) are corrected. A driver can also be placed out of service for driver related violation (s). TT News reports that some of the common driver requirement violations include: Failure to show proof of medical qualifications Insurance and vehicle registration Detected drug or alcohol use Failure to wear a seat belt Presenting an inspector a false record-of-duty status During this 3 day period, CVSA reports that on average there are 17 trucks or buses inspected every minute across North America. It is critical that driver’s are prepared for these inspections to avoid any disruptions to your deliveries.
