OL&T Hosts Responsible Care Management System Workshop

CHARLOTTE, NC (Mar. 15, 2010) – As part of its ongoing commitment to safety, the environment and customer service excellence, Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corp. (OL&T) will host a two-day Responsible Care Management System® (RCMS®) workshop with the American Chemistry Council at OL&T’s customer service center here on March 16 through 18.

Chemical manufacturers that are members of the American Chemistry Council have made significant improvements in environmental, health, safety and, in recent years, security performance through the Responsible Care® initiative. As a result, Responsible Care® has resulted in emissions reductions of more than 70 percent and a worker safety record four and a half times better than the manufacturing sector as a whole.

The Responsible Care Management System® (RCMS®) offers an integrated, structured approach to drive results in  seven key areas: community awareness and emergency response; distribution; employee health and safety; pollution prevention; process safety; product stewardship; and security.

“These implementation workshops clarify any questions or concerns that might arise in the interpretation and implementation of either the RCMS® or the RC14001® management system, and provide an excellent opportunity for members and partners to work together in creating full understanding of the practical aspects of the RCMS®,” said David P. Gleason, senior director, Responsible Care®, American Chemistry Council.

The Responsible Care® Partnership Program extends the Responsible Care® initiative and its continuous improvement efforts beyond America’s chemical producers to include their supply chain partners that are engaged in the business of chemicals – including their customers, carriers, distributors, and managed logistics and third-party service providers such as OL&T.

“As a Responsible Care® Partner, OL&T adheres to the same Responsible Care® commitments and requirements as its American Chemistry Council member customers. This means that OL&T must apply the Responsible Care Management System® to relevant portions of its global operations; obtain independent certification that the system has been fully implemented and functions according to professional standards; measure and publicly report performance; and, implement the Responsible Care® Security Code,” said OL&T’s Ken Howard, director, Logistics Operations & Transportation Safety.
