In an effort to combat unsafe driving behaviors by both truckers and passenger cars, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have joined forces to promote “Operation Safe-Driver Week.” Beginning on Oct. 15th and carrying on until the 21st, law enforcement nation-wide will begin a campaign of heavily increased scrutiny on the road, looking closely for infractions like speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt usage, following too closely, failure to obey traffic safety devices and more.
In the “Large Truck Crash Causation” study performed by the FMCSA, it was found that up to 88% of large truck crashes and 93% of passenger-vehicle crashes resulted from unsafe driver behaviors. CVSA and the FMCSA have since joined forces to sponsor and implement the “Operation Safe Driver Program” in an effort to reduce unsafe driving habits, and the accidents, injuries and deaths that occur as a result.
